Setup guide
From download to your first agent on the board.
Install Hektro
Hektro needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Open the downloaded disk image and drag Hektro into Applications. The app is signed by HIDROGENONE S.R.L. and notarized by Apple.
The first time you open Hektro, it sends you to hektro.com in your browser. Sign in with GitHub, Google or a 6-digit code sent to your email, confirm the Mac, and the browser hands you back to the app. Hektro never asks you to type a password.
Connect your agents
Hektro runs the command-line agents you already use, with your own accounts. Install one or both, then sign in with your plan.
Claude Code
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
claude auth loginCodex
brew install --cask codex
codex loginNo Homebrew? Use npm i -g @openai/codex instead.
Hektro checks each agent and marks it ready once it is signed in with a Claude or ChatGPT subscription. It does not use API keys.
What the statuses mean
- READY
- Waiting for your next prompt.
- WORKING
- Busy with your request.
- NEEDS YOU
- Waiting for an approval or a plan decision. The card turns amber and Hektro tells you which agent it is.
- ERROR
- The agent reported an error. The card shows its message.
- EXITED
- The process has ended. You can restart it from its card.
Plain zsh consoles only show READY and EXITED.
Offline, and on two Macs
Hektro refreshes its licence every 12 hours while you are online. Without a connection it keeps working for up to 7 days, and a licence check never stops a console that is already running.
One subscription covers 2 Macs. Signing in on a third offers to sign out the oldest one.
Questions
An agent is not marked ready
Run claude auth login or codex login in Terminal, sign in with your subscription, then check again in Hektro.
Can I use Hektro without Claude Code or Codex?
Yes. Plain zsh consoles work on the board too, though Hektro is built around agents.
Where do I manage my subscription?
On your account page at hektro.com, which opens at launch.
